Yesterday, Marie was loaded up and transferred from the hospital to Creekside Rehabilitation center. Of course, Marie faced the changes with fear of the unknown and still not sure what lies ahead for her.
After they arrived and got settled in, Glenda said that Marie spent from 3pm until 2am without pain medication. Apparently the transfer and lack of orders and communication between the hospital and Creekside was more than unsatisfactory. This is exactly one of the reasons why we are adamant about being by Marie's side. We learned this as a family as we did our best to help look after mom as she spent 7 weeks in the hospital before she passed. The healthcare systems and it's people can work to save our lives, but it is not without flaws.
Glenda spent hours trying to help keep Marie comforted and calm. Glenda was much relieved when Marlo showed up around 5pm to help. Glenda said Marie cried for about 10 hours until she couldn't cry anymore. She had plum wore herself out trying to fight the pain. Glenda and Marlo were both at their wits end in trying to help her and in trying to get resolutions. Apparently, the pharmacy delivery truck was also delivering drugs to the multiple other sites! Nevertheless, it was finally resolved and proper complaints were filed and noted.
Glenda said Creekside seems to be a great physicility with great people. They are already doing a lot to help accommodate Marie and her specific needs as far bedding, traction, chairs, medication changes, etc. They even have a doctor who is kind and considerate. He spent 30 minutes with Marie and listened to her fears, frustrations, multiple health issues including nausea, diarrhea, leg paresthesia, pain, etc. Much relief was felt and a new found hope in better care management, and rehabilitation.
Marie asked the doctor the hard question that she has been fearing, and that was whether or not he thinks she will ever walk again. He told her he thinks there is a very good chance and that is what they are going to work towards, however, he wants her to think more positively about that as a possibility as well, or rather, be determined to do so herself.
Much love to my sisters who are taking care of Marie...and who also always take care of one another. Glenda couldn't say enough about how much she was glad to have Marlo there with her, and how much Marlo has done to help in so many ways.
Marie's current needs: Love, support, visitors, and words of encouragement.
Love you all!
